A cactus is a member of the plant family Cactaceae, the oder Caryophyllales
Most of the cacti inhabit in extremely dry environments.
Cacti show many adaptations to conserve water and promote efficient water use. Most of cacti have lost true leaves, retaining only spines which function to prevent water loss by reducing airflow closely and provide shade. It has enlarge stems that carry out photosynthesis. Stems also store water. Cactus flowers are pollinated by insects, birds and bats, none to be wind-polinated in order to reproduce.
Cacti used as food (almost any freshy cactus fruit is edible), psychoactive agents (chemical compounds that can cause changes in mood, perception and cognition through their effects on the brain), cacti were cultivated as ornamental plants, also used as fodder for animals and herbal medicine.
