(PHYSICAL THERAPY) our first patient was pedia aged 8 years old. My impression is, to consider as CP spastic Hemiphlegia (L) with some. It was her (mother) first time to bring her child in a Physical Therapy Treatment. She didn’t know her child’s condition. She didn’t know also rehabilitation exist to help her child.

It was hard for us to say her child’s condition all about, it’s always hard to see a mother’s a pain inside and we know it was harder for her but it will be hardest to know not about certain and big help. It is the Doctor’s part to explain it in an easy way and they are the most authorized to do it with relative physical evaluation and ancillary procedures result. But since it was her first time to hear that kind of brain disease from us, I have predicted the reaction but I’m always careful to say that her child’s illness in brain is permanent and not progressive. We just have to help him reduce severity of his current physical complications and certainly help him out from major physical complications.

In our assessment, the child manifested delayed development at his age of 8 wherein he wasn’t able to roll over his body and unusually bring his body into sitting position, doesn’t even independently perform transitional movement to standing, thus  cognitive is affected, he wasn’t able to utter even a word, only bubbling sounds and cry. Also, he manifested already some physical complications such as severe tightness and contracture, limb shortening and worse left hip dislocations confirmed from my special test, heard popping sounds and seen in X-ray.

According to mother, he was delivered out prematurely, very thin and small. He didn’t use incubator, only covered by a blanket for a week because of financial reason and lack of knowledge about it and added this (wala po akong pera at malalayo and hospital dito sa probinsya namin), I understand it, she just delivered normally in the house. He didn’t show any form of weakness and illness until he had reach age of 3. From her stories and subjective evaluation to her child, I knew when to say its cerebral palsy that a baby suffered from based on maternal to present evaluation and the manifestation itself.

I can see in her eyes, shocked! But she was pursuant. I felt her inside she was eager to know everything about his child and his possibility to be in control of himself. And that was the thing I admire her, a mother’s instinct, belief, faith in God and love. She cooperated well with the treatment I have showed and performed to her and done to her son. I saw her deep focus just to make her child be functional as I speak out a lot to her about his functional capabilities that must be achieved in order to let him move functionally and learn more things in terms of physical and some of cognitive even if he can’t move like a normal one but can possess assistive to independent highest functional capabilities as long term goals.

I gave her performed and written instruction for his baby’s every day exercises that should be incorporated in play therapy. Of course, certain precautionary measures were given with the exercises instruction. Not to give her false hope that her son's condition wont be normalize but be functional will do and so I told her, it was not overnight, it would take much of your time that need patience, dedication, effort and prayers. Even follow up and consultation from doctors and therapy department were strongly recommended. If someone can provide her information of free services for children like him, never let the opportunity passed by. Always be a mother to your child.

I just leave her a message with this wonder of my mind: A well health and special blessing will be granted to an exceptional mother who never fails to provide time and love to her exceptional children come from God. :D

At exactly 2:30pm, registration was closed and we started to pack up all things in 3:00pm (Physical Therapy). And by 4pm, when some health providers were still open their services for the group of patients in the latter of registration. A kagawad woman offered their places of interest: Mount Balungao hilltop Adventure. She proudly boasted hot and cold spring and 2nd longest zip-line in the Philippines. She really sounded interesting but of course, I was not only to decide even if it was for free. Still, the organizer who handed this deal and YEHEY… I just know you want to visit our side trip to Balungao Hilltop adventure.
