PH Medical Missions

I climb because I'm stress, I'm happy, I felt the inner love in mountaineering and it fills my being a real happiness but what makes me even happier is by doing such good deed like...

Medical mission, a way of donating time for charitable purposes. Heart melts whenever I hear somebody "I have no money for my superior medical needs". So here I am, in my small way, I could say, Use me Your instrument to help others with my blessed abilities and skills to hand good things for
  deserve ones.

About Charity?

Since year 2010, with the charitable institution I work with, I’ve been donated my time in helping people through, indeed, medical mission. Different places in the Philippines were conquered. Enormous number of people received prudent care from volunteered professional healthcare providers, other students in medical field courses including myself being a Physical Therapy Scholar and those kind-hearted volunteers who workforce all together to make this very kind work of heart well–earned. No money were involved not even sales and product advertisement in return of this deed but smiles drawn in every innocent face of numerous less fortunate people and a simple way of saying “Thank you!” are truly fulfilling. Hence, it is the most precious gift we have ever received and kept it in our hearts deeply. I’m used to it several times in the year 2010 and 2011. Now, looking forward to accomplishing much of medical missions in 2012. God Willing :)

Achievements noted for 2010 and 2011

Briefly in the year 2010, from the month of August to December, reported of 13 accounts of successful medical missions I have eminent. Followed by the year 2011, another 6 accounts for medical missions were successfully done. I have spent 2 months in 2011. Not to explain further but it was discerned secondary to the internship program have to be accomplished for the entire year for graduation. Now, it is another year that I am not able to meet new mission since I have been busy with some of essential matters. (See medical mission chronicle 2010, 2011) (also see medical mission returns!)

Medical Mission is a choice of helping people.

Each and every one of us wants to offer a hand in any ways they know base on their skills, knowledge and interests. For me, I find happiness in doing medical missions. The feeling is worth-fulfilling whenever you hear such appreciation and you found out that there are benefits they get from a simple way of executing what we know is right for the treatment after the keen assessment to the primary problem of the patients. Become even happier when the patients relieves from pain and discomfort and able to do functional activities again. More importantly, since we, the Physical therapy medical group, were not going back for follow up, leaving home instructions to the patients to maintain their good health, to let their awareness high with regards to their problem, to teach them the essence of simple exercises but effective for a certain condition and end-result will be able again to restore highest functional capabilities to do activities of daily living without pain, discomfort and limitation.

It all started here.

I want to do medical mission, I realized it’s, actually, a good deed. This was in a post on fb that I used to say, I’d like to offer my help through medical mission. After a week, I saw a message from my fb inbox, a message from my dentist and friend. She invited me to join medical mission on Sundays. Physical Therapy was one of the medical group offering services to people so that I could use my knowledge and at the same I could practice my course in preparation to internship. Well, actually, I was in 4th year level, a year ahead of it I am absolutely an intern. One Sunday in month of august 2010 was my very first mission at Makati City Jail. It was one of my happiest moments I definitely want to share to all. J

I was amongst strangers. I didn’t know anyone. Everyone in my medical group was waiting for a lucky patient referred by our gorgeous doctors. I was sitting distantly from them, I was so shy, I didn’t know any of the process, what to do first until the first batch of patients came to our small nipa-hat like place where all treatments happened.

Still, I’m lingering all around the place as if I really don’t know what else to do while others having their interviews regarding the HPI (History of patient’s illness) until Ate malou asked me to collect all the referral slip of the patients who would like to render PT service. Wooo, I got slightly neutralize from uncontrolled fast heart beats I encountered while waiting and wandering around the treatment area.

Male and female had separated room for treatment, especially women who had a body part exposure as part of PT assessment of her primary problem.

Treatment with very first patient, not accusing him a malingering one, but the feeling is like that in reference to all the assessment I made, however, if through that way, they could get pleasure and be entertained is enough. Getting to the fact that they were inside for number of years and no other to talk to but co-prisoners and “bantay na pulis”. It is understood. Followed by many patients with different conditions, all the knowledge I’ve learned from school reminds me of all the right evaluation and treatment for certain condition including precautions and contraindications.

Finally, I went home smiling with grace in the heart.
